This trip starts in Tunis, heads south to Douz, and then leaves the easy roads behind as we push into the desert through Ain Ouadette and on toward Sif Essouane. Douz is the last proper stop before the real Sahara begins, and from there the ride becomes all about sand, dunes, remote camps, and long days in a huge open landscape. It is also the last stop for fuel, water and food! Ain Ouadette is the first goal, a little oasis in the middle of the Grand Erg, before we continue deeper into the dunes toward Sif Essouane. This is not a casual desert drive: the terrain is technical, dunes are higher and higher, the sand can be soft, and the route is demanding even when conditions are good. If we do it in late april, expect the whole experience to become much tougher, both for the vehicles and for the people. It’s the kind of trip that rewards solid driving, patience, and a real taste for adventure. Strong sand driving experience and solid and desert-proven cars are needed.
