5-Day Itinerary: Fly into Serengeti → River Crossing Focus → Fly to Zanzibar Day 1: Arrival in Serengeti (Fly-in to Northern Serengeti) Fly from your starting point (e.g., Arusha/Kilimanjaro or direct connections) into a Northern Serengeti airstrip like Kogatende. Mid-morning arrival, meet your private guide, and transfer to your camp/lodge (short game drive en route). Afternoon: Game drive in the Kogatende area, scouting the Mara River for migration herds, big cats (lions, leopards), elephants, and giraffes. Overnight: Luxury tented camp or lodge in Northern Serengeti (e.g., near the river for optimal positioning). Day 2–3: Full Days in Northern Serengeti – Mara River Crossing Pursuit Early morning and full-day game drives focused on the Mara River. Guides position vehicles at likely crossing points; you'll witness (weather/herd-dependent) wildebeest plunging into the water, dramatic escapes from crocodiles, and predator action on the banks. Between crossings, enjoy the vast plains, kopjes, and resident wildlife (Big Five possible). Picnic lunches in the bush; optional sundowner drinks. These two full days give you the highest probability of seeing the spectacle. Overnight: Same Northern Serengeti camp (staying put maximizes game drive time). Day 4: Morning Game Drive + Fly to Zanzibar Early morning game drive (final chance for crossings or Big Five sightings). Mid-morning transfer to the airstrip for a light aircraft flight to Zanzibar (direct or via Dar es Salaam/Arusha; flights often depart late morning and arrive by early afternoon). Upon arrival in Zanzibar (ZNZ), private transfer to your beach resort. Afternoon at leisure: relax on white-sand beaches, swim in turquoise waters, or unwind at your hotel.
