Guatemala for overland travelers
Guatemala sits on the spine of the Pan-American route, and almost everyone driving the Americas passes through it. The highlands are the heart: Antigua under its volcanoes, the switchbacks down to Lake Atitlán, market towns like Chichicastenango and the high country toward Huehuetenango.
The other Guatemala is lowland jungle: the long roads north into Petén, Tikal rising out of the forest, and rough tracks toward remote lagoons and river crossings. The rainy season (roughly May to October) turns dirt roads to mud and triggers landslides in the mountains — timing matters here more than almost anywhere in the region.
GuideMeet helps with the things maps do not show: which borders flow and which stall, where the roads have washed out this season, volcano treks like Acatenango arranged with local crews, and the on-the-ground knowledge that keeps a Central American leg moving.
