The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the most beautiful and adventurous trekking experiences in Nepal, offering breathtaking Himalayan scenery, traditional mountain villages, rich Tibetan Buddhist culture, and the challenge of crossing the spectacular Larkya La Pass (5,106 m).

This 12-day journey begins and ends in Kathmandu, taking you into the remote Manaslu region, where you can experience authentic mountain life, peaceful landscapes, and incredible views of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), the world’s eighth-highest mountain.

12-Day Manaslu Circuit Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu to Machha Khola (930 m) Drive from Kathmandu through beautiful hills, rivers, terraced fields, and traditional settlements to Machha Khola, the starting point of the trekking route.

Day 2: Machha Khola to Jagat (1,340 m) Begin trekking along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing small villages, suspension bridges, waterfalls, and forested trails. Arrive at Jagat, a traditional village and an important checkpoint for entering the Manaslu Conservation Area.

Day 3: Jagat to Deng (1,860 m) Continue through beautiful landscapes, stone-paved paths, forests, and remote villages. Cross suspension bridges and experience the changing scenery and culture as you move deeper into the Manaslu region.

Day 4: Deng to Namrung (2,630 m) Trek through peaceful forests, traditional settlements, and Buddhist cultural areas. As you gain elevation, enjoy increasingly impressive views of the surrounding mountains and experience the unique Tibetan-influenced lifestyle of the local communities.

Day 5: Namrung to Samagaun (3,530 m) Pass through picturesque villages such as Lho and Shyala, with spectacular views of Mount Manaslu and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Reach Samagaun, one of the major villages in the upper Manaslu region, known for its traditional architecture, monasteries, and mountain scenery.

Day 6: Acclimatization Day in Samagaun (3,530 m) Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude. Depending on weather, fitness, and local conditions, you can take an optional hike toward Manaslu Base Camp or Birendra Lake. These excursions offer stunning views of glaciers, mountains, and the surrounding Himalayan landscape. Proper acclimatization is important before ascending higher.

Day 7: Samagaun to Samdo (3,875 m) Continue through alpine landscapes with spectacular views of Mount Manaslu. The trail passes open valleys, yak pastures, and traditional mountain settlements before reaching Samdo, a remote village near the Tibetan border.

Day 8: Samdo to Dharamsala / Larkya Phedi (4,460 m) Trek gradually through rugged high-altitude terrain toward Dharamsala, also known as Larkya Phedi. This is the final major overnight stop before crossing Larkya La Pass. Rest, hydrate, and prepare for the challenging day ahead.

Day 9: Dharamsala to Larkya La Pass (5,106 m) to Bimthang (3,590 m) This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek. Start early and ascend toward Larkya La Pass, where you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and other surrounding peaks. After celebrating the achievement, descend across rugged mountain terrain to Bimthang, surrounded by spectacular Himalayan scenery.

Day 10: Bimthang to Dharapani (1,860 m) Descend through beautiful alpine meadows, forests, and traditional settlements. Enjoy changing landscapes as the trail returns to greener surroundings before reaching Dharapani, where the Manaslu Circuit connects with the Annapurna Circuit trekking region.

Day 11: Dharapani to Kathmandu Travel by road from Dharapani toward Kathmandu, enjoying views of mountain valleys, rivers, hills, and rural villages along the way. Road conditions may affect the journey time.

Day 12: Kathmandu – Departure or Free Day Enjoy a free day in Kathmandu for sightseeing, shopping, relaxation, or onward travel. If you have an international flight, plan your departure according to your flight schedule.

Major Highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek

* Spectacular views of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m). * Crossing the breathtaking Larkya La Pass (5,106 m). * Exploring traditional Himalayan villages and Tibetan-influenced culture. * Visiting Samagaun and Samdo, two remarkable settlements in the upper Manaslu region. * Experiencing Buddhist monasteries, mani walls, prayer flags, and chortens. * Walking through forests, river valleys, alpine meadows, glaciers, and high mountain landscapes. * Enjoying the peaceful and less-developed atmosphere of the Manaslu region compared with some of Nepal’s busier trekking routes.

Trek Difficulty and Preparation

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is generally considered a challenging trek because of its high altitude, long walking days, remote terrain, and the crossing of Larkya La Pass. Previous trekking experience, good physical fitness, appropriate clothing, and proper acclimatization are highly recommended.

Weather can change quickly at higher elevations, especially around the pass. A flexible itinerary and an experienced guide help manage changing conditions safely.

Permits and Guide Requirements

The Manaslu region is a restricted trekking area. Trekkers generally need a Manaslu Restricted Area Permit, a Manaslu Conservation Area Permit, and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit for the standard route through Dharapani. Restricted-area rules require trekkers to travel with a licensed guide and arrange permits through an authorized trekking agency. Current permit conditions and fees should be confirmed before departure.

Best Seasons for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Spring (March–May): Pleasant trekking conditions, blooming rhododendrons at lower elevations, and beautiful mountain scenery.

Autumn (September–November): Generally clear mountain views and popular trekking conditions, although nights can be cold at higher elevations.

Winter and the monsoon season can bring additional challenges, including snow, difficult trail conditions, rain, landslides, and possible pass closures.

What Is Included in a 12-Day Trek?

A typical organized package may include private ground transportation, a licensed trekking guide, required permits, accommodation in teahouses, and meals during the trek. Porters, travel insurance, personal trekking equipment, hot showers, Wi-Fi, drinks, tips, and other personal expenses may be charged separately, depending on the package.

Important: This 12-day itinerary is a fast-paced outline. Actual walking times and road transfers vary, and the schedule should be adjusted to the trekker’s fitness, acclimatization needs, weather, and trail conditions. The final itinerary should allow enough time for a safe crossing of Larkya La Pass.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is more than a mountain adventure; it is an opportunity to experience Nepal’s natural beauty, traditional Himalayan communities, and unforgettable mountain landscapes in one incredible journey from Kathmandu to Kathmandu.
