Seven days in south-west Angola, from the Ruacana border into the lands of the Kunene’s semi-nomadic peoples and up to the Huíla highlands. You drive your own 4x4 in a radio-linked convoy behind an experienced Angola guide, and our chef cooks three meals a day, most over the fire.
Where we go
The peoples of the south-west: around Chitado, Oncocua and Cahama, home to the Himba, Hakaona, Mutua, Mucawana, Mudimba and Mugambue. They move with their cattle and the rains, so we plan our visits around where they are at the time, always with respect and permission. Tundavala Gap and Cristo Rei: the escarpment edge above Lubango, and the statue looking over the city. The Leba Pass: the famous hairpin road down the escarpment. Lake Arco and Colinas: desert landscapes towards the coast.
Included: your guide, our chef and three meals a day, a radio for your vehicle, recovery gear, communal camping kit, and border formalities in and out.
You bring: your own 4x4 and personal camping kit (tent, bedding). An Angolan visa is required. We can assist with kitted 4x4 rentals.
Group or private: join a group departure, or travel privately on your own dates, with the route shaped around you.
