Cross the Kunene at Ruacana and drive your own 4x4 into one of Africa’s least-travelled corners, in a radio-linked convoy behind an experienced Angola guide. We handle the border formalities, recovery gear and camp kitchen, with three meals a day cooked over the fire. You bring your vehicle and your sense of adventure.

Your way: group or private. Join one of our group departures and share the road with fellow travellers, or travel privately with your own guide and convoy, on your own dates. Every route below can be shaped around you: more days on the coast, extra fishing, a slower pace or a different finish.

Our routes

South-West, 12 days: Ruacana to the coast. Tundavala Gap, the Leba Pass, beach camps at Baía das Pipas with days for fishing, then the dunes of Baía dos Tigres and the mouth of the Kunene at Foz do Cunene. South-West & East, 14 days: Iona National Park and Foz do Cunene, the Leba Pass and Lubango, Bicuar National Park, the war museum at Cuito Cuanavale, and a final camp at the Cuatir reserve. About 2,230 km in one direction, with no backtracking. The Full North, about 21 days: Angola end to end, from the Pungo Andongo rocks and Calandula Falls to Mbanza Kongo, the Congo mouth and back down the coast. The peoples of the Kunene, 7 days: Oncocua, Cahama and the Kunene borderlands, home to the Himba, Hakaona, Mutua, Mucawana, Mudimba and Mugambue. Who you meet depends on where they are at the time; visits are made with respect and permission.

Good to know: group departures run several times a year, mostly June to November. You’ll need a 4x4 on sound tyres and your own camping kit; a rooftop tent is fine. An Angolan visa is required.
