Day 1: Addis Ababa – Semera – Dallol Begin your journey with a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera. Upon arrival, meet your driver and expedition team before starting the drive toward the Danakil Depression through the dramatic Afar landscapes. The journey takes approximately 7–8 hours with stops along the way for photos and short breaks. Arrive in Hamed Ella, the small settlement that serves as the main base for Danakil expeditions, and enjoy a tea break before continuing to Lake Asale for sunset. Watch the changing colors over the salt flats and experience one of the hottest and most unique landscapes on earth. After sunset, drive back to the campsite for dinner and overnight camping. Day 2: Dallol – Salt Formations – Erta Ale Volcano Wake up early in the morning and drive to Dallol to witness sunrise over the colorful hydrothermal fields. Enjoy breakfast while surrounded by the extraordinary volcanic scenery. Continue exploring the vibrant sulfur springs, mineral formations, salt mountains, and natural salt pools created by geothermal activity. After the visit, begin the drive toward Erta Ale Volcano through the remote desert landscapes of the Afar region. Upon arrival at the campsite near the volcano, take a short rest before starting the hike to the summit. The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to reach the edge of the volcano, where you can observe the dramatic volcanic crater and lava activity depending on volcanic conditions. After enjoying the views and atmosphere of Erta Ale, descend back to the campsite for dinner and overnight. Day 3: Erta Ale – Semera – Addis Ababa In the morning, enjoy breakfast before driving back across the Afar desert toward Semera. Along the route, admire the vast lava fields, camel caravans, and unique desert scenery. Upon arrival in Semera, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, marking the end of your unforgettable Danakil Depression adventure.
