Experience one of Ethiopia’s most extraordinary rock-hewn churches on this full-day adventure from Mekelle to Abune Yemata Guh, located in the spectacular mountains of Tigray. Famous for its dramatic cliffside location, ancient cave paintings, and breathtaking panoramic views, Abune Yemata is considered one of the most unique churches in the world.

Your journey begins early in the morning with pickup from Mekelle Airport or your hotel. Drive through the beautiful landscapes and traditional villages of Tigray while enjoying scenic mountain views along the route. After approximately 3 hours of driving, arrive near the church area where the hiking adventure begins.

The trek includes walking across rocky terrain and climbing sections of the sandstone cliff with the assistance of local guides. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the surrounding valleys and rock formations. Upon reaching the church, explore its remarkable ancient murals, religious treasures, and unique architecture carved directly into the rock.

After spending time visiting the church and enjoying the scenery, descend back to the village and stop for lunch before returning to Mekelle in the late afternoon. The tour ends with drop-off at your hotel or Mekelle Airport.
