Hike or ride to Ala-Kul, the jewel of the Karakol mountains. Three days of alpine trails, a night in a mountain yurt camp or guesthouse, and a hot spring to warm up in. Choose trekking or horseback. Season: June to end of October. Difficult. No riding experience needed for the horse option.
Route, trekking option: Day 1: Karakol Gorge, trek to Sirota Yurt Camp, overnight in a yurt. Day 2: Trek to Ala-Kul Lake, hot spring, overnight in a guesthouse. Day 3: Trek to Ak Suu, then back to Karakol.
Route, horse riding option: Day 1: Ak Suu, ride to Altyn Arashan, overnight at the camp. Day 2: Ride near Ala-Kul Lake, short trek, return to the guesthouse on horseback. Day 3: Ride back to Ak Suu, then back to Karakol.
Meeting point: pick-up from Karakol on Day 1.

Not included: insurance, personal expenses, transfers to and from Karakol, snacks, lunch box on Day 2. For the horse option also lunch on the last day.
