Do you need a local guide in Guyana?
Strongly advised. For the interior, the Guyana Tourism Authority says it plainly: travelling there is best done with the help of tour operators who can make all the necessary arrangements. In Georgetown and along the coast a guide isn't a legal requirement, but crime is high enough, and specific districts risky enough, that most visitors travel with local support anyway.
