Safety
- Non-essential travel — The ministry advises against non-essential travel to the country. Given the political instability, be particularly careful, avoid gatherings and avoid moving around at night, and follow local media.
- Senegal border and mines — Insecurity persists in the border area with Senegal because of the confrontation between Casamance separatist rebels and the regular Senegalese army. Partly because of the presence of mines in that area, travel there is strongly advised against.
- Terrorism — With security in the Sahel deteriorating and terrorist groups active there, Guinea-Bissau is exposed to the risk of hostile action against Western citizens and interests.
- Crime and corruption — Corruption is widespread throughout the country, and the crime rate in the capital is high.
- Rainy season — Take the necessary precautions during the rainy season, from June to October. Heavy rain can make road and driving conditions difficult.
