Safety in Gabon: what overland travellers should know

Safety
- Crime — Public order is not described as critical, but common crime happens and the ministry asks for a high level of attention, above all on the outskirts of the main towns. Avoid demonstrations and gatherings, and do not flaunt cash or valuables.
- Libreville districts at night — Caution is advised in the evening and at night in several districts of the capital: Louis, Mont Bouet, Gare Routière, Rio, London, Lalala, Oloumi, Petit Paris, Nkembo and Awendje.
- Terrorism — The terrorism risk is currently rated low, though the ministry notes no country can be considered immune.
- Wildlife off the tarmac — In rural areas and national parks watch for reptiles, elephants and other wild animals. The ministry recommends always being accompanied by local guides of proven reliability.
