Safety in Croatia: what overland travellers should know

Safety
- Public order — No particular public-order problems are reported at the moment. Normal precautions against petty crime are enough.
- Stay on marked roads — In areas at risk, do not leave the main roads or the marked tracks.
- Earthquakes and fires — Like the whole of the Balkans, Croatia carries a high seismic risk. Dangerous fires can break out during very hot summers, so take particular care in wooded and forested areas. The emergency number is 112.
- Check prices first — There have been disputes over the prices charged for food and drink, alcohol above all. Ask what things cost before you order.
